About sports injury physiotherapy

Sprains, strains and overuse injuries are part of sport. What matters is getting the right diagnosis early and following a plan that gets you back to training and match day without rushing it.

Fiona Callan, PhD, is physiotherapist to the Monaghan senior men's football team and has worked with Armagh, Crossmaglen Rangers and Wolverhampton Wanderers. The same assessment and decision-making used with those teams is available to every patient at the clinic in Carrickmacross.

Do you treat underage players?

Yes. We see children and teenagers as well as adult and elite players, including young players with growth-related and sports injuries.

How soon after an injury should I come in?

Early advice often helps, so it's worth booking soon after an injury. We can tell you what to do now and what to avoid while it settles.

Can you help me get back for a match?

We'll plan your return around your fixtures where it's safe to do so, and use strength testing to check you're ready rather than relying on how it feels.
